Background:

The Adverse Childhood Experiences Study (ACE Study) is a research study initiated in the U.S. in the 1990’s. The study has demonstrated an association of adverse childhood experiences with health and social problems across the lifespan. Complimentary Studies have taken place in the UK (and elsewhere) using the same methodology. These have been led by Prof. Mark Bellis – a member of the World Health Organisation (WHO) global expert advisory panel on violence prevention, the UK Focal Point to the WHO for Injury and Violence Prevention, and currently Director of Policy, Research and International Development at Public Health Wales and former Director of the Centre for Public Health.
